Thanks to Mark Manning at 90.1 KKFI for being the first to play “Letter” over the airwaves.
So you want to hear it again? Download it!
We’re working fast and furious to get the new album pressed and ready for our release party here in Kansas City on October 27th. We’ll have lots of info and pre-order information for you soon.
You might have noticed we’ve been slow on the website updates as of late. Our apologies. It’s because we’ve been so busy. We’re planning a revamp of the page but, for the moment, you can get the most constant stream of updates on our facebook page here.
This summer is shaping up to be a good one, as you can see from the dates we have listed. And in between all that playing, we’ve been recording our new album. We’re all really excited about how it’s shaping up and will have some news regarding its release date in the next few weeks.
We’ll also be updating our store, very soon, with some great new shirt designs, beer koozies, key chains and some other goodies. If you just can’t wait, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do for you. Or better yet, come to a show and pick up some DFX swag in person!
“A Dollar and Two Pennies” is the second in a series of secret house shows produced by Money Wolf Music. This event features Dollar Fox, Victor & Penny, and The Penny Sheets.
This show is on May 12th. Tickets and more information are available at http://moneywolfmusic.com/secret/.
Never fear, KC music fans. While a number of Kansas City’s musical acts are heading down to Austin this week for the Midcoast Takeover at South by Southwest, a few of us are staying behind to keep you entertained.
This Friday, at The Record Bar, we’ll be taking the stage with The Latenight Callers and The Hillary Watts Riot for a great night of music in the first annual South by Southwest Trafficway festival. It’ll be a great night of music, for sure … if not one of the most diverse. Music will start promptly at 10:00. The lineup is as follows:
10:00 – Dollar Fox
11:00 – The Latenight Callers
12:00 – The Hillary Watts Riot
Hope to see you all there. And stay in touch, as we have a great spring and summer planned.
We’ve got plenty!
Tonight we’ll be at the Replay Lounge in Lawrence, KS with The Silver Maggies and John Statz.
Have dinner with Dollar Fox on Friday. The Brick is hosting Dollar Fox and John Statz for an early show. Music will start at 7:00. The KC Star says that Dollar Fox is “highly recommended“. The Brick has some awesome food and has been feature on Food Network’s “Diners, Drives-in and Dives”.
Everything in this band seems to be mated to food or drink. Saturday, Tommy and I (Justin) will be at Arsaga’s coffee shop in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Our friend John Crider will be performing as well.
Oh yeah … a new release. In the lead up to this duo show in Arkansas, Tommy and I recorded a split single of solo songs. It was supposed to be a lathe-cut 7″ but our source for that didn’t end up working out so we put it on our Bandcamp page. “The Weekender” by Tommy Donoho and Justin Penney is available on our Bandcamp for $2.
We have released the single “Whiskey Tonight” on our Bandcamp page.
This song was recorded in the back of Christopher Elbow chocolates with all of us huddled around two microphones. None of us know why we sat on it for nearly a year.
The cover art includes a bottle of whiskey, Tommy’s Dad’s Bourbon Punch recipe, and an RG 14 revolver (a notorious “saturday night special”).
Have a listen, buy the song, download the cover art and enjoy.
A few months back, the fine folks at the music blog Cover Me Songs were kind enough to do a write up on our version of “Big Rock Candy Mountain”. Earlier this week we were informed that, among the hundreds of songs they had to choose from, we had made it into their Top 50 songs of the year. “Big Rock” is sitting in the #42 slot, and it’s sharing space with some fine company — including Willie Nelson, Jack White, Jason Isbell and Bon Iver. We’re pleased as punch, to say the least.
You can read the entire list at http://www.covermesongs.com/2011/12/the-best-cover-songs-of-2011.html/2.
And you can still purchase a copy of the 7″ from our music/merch page.
Happy Holidays!
